20% off pipes, 10% off everything in the store I believe, free special IPSD blend for orders over $100, free shirt with $150 or more. I am looking forward to Tuesday.
They are a great shop. I hope to get to do a pilgrimage there one day. I ordered a unfinished Savinelli, which from listening to the show for so long got excited about. They packaged it very well, but thanks to the USPS man handeling , they shank cracked. I called the shop, Jon David answers and said he will replace it. Such great service and when I spoke with him it felt like I was talking to a celebrity!
I ordered a few ounces of bulk from them a few weeks ago. It took the order about two weeks to arrive, which I did not mind--or even notice--but they apparently felt bad about the delay so they threw in a bag of another of their fine tobaccos gratis, along with a note of apology. It had been my first order with them, but it certainly will not be the last!
@randelli - you can also find the recent "live" episodes on youtube. These are the podcasts before they are edited and uploaded to iTunes or other platforms.
At one time, I was an ardent viewer and listener to the Country Squire Radio Podcast. I really enjoyed it back when they were doing the live broadcasts on youtube. I made a couple of trips to Jackson to visit the shop and meet Jon David and even concocted my own personal blend with him. Then, I just lost interest in the podcast because they started discussing things that had really little to do with pipe smoking. That and I really started disagreeing with Beau and found his attitude towards older pipe smokers to be dismissive.
That being said, The 10 years worth of podcasts will still live on and be accessible to pipe smokers. That is where the real value to the pipe smoking community lies. They are moving from a weekly podcast to an archive of reference material for new smokers.
I never minded the non pipe banter...too much. Over all I thought they managed to create content that felt like a bunch of guys shooting the shit at the local pipe shop. I enjoyed that since everytime I wander into the local place here I cringe at the pipes brown with oxidation in the case and feel like I walked into a set from Goodfellas.
@Montecristo I'm sure you've already seen there are various controversial threads dedicated to certain topics outside of pipe smoking in this group...our rule of thumb is 'if you don't want to see it, don't click on it'. That said, there aren't many of us on here and we're all fairly experienced pipe smokers (myself about 40 years now in fact).
This group is more a bunch of seasoned guys that you would find at a cigar and pipe lounge somewhere shooting the shit about their wives, families, hobbies, politics, etc. There isn't but so much to talk about if you only focus on pipes and pipe tobacco--especially if you have the number of years smoking that we have.
I was on another far more popular site for about a year before it became clear that there were only two genres--junior smokers asking advice and senior/know-it-all smokers giving it (and mostly giving bad advice by the way), and very little else...it became boring very quickly. Then you had the moderators...I won't even comment on them. This site isn't actively moderated, which to me, is a good thing. We're far freer to speak our minds on this site, but with collegiality as well, which is a nice combination.
This site may or may not be what you are looking for in the end, but we're a bunch of good guys just trying to shoot the shit, and if pipes and tobacco work there way into it (which it often does), of course we comment on it, but it's not necessarily the sole focus of this site. Art, guns, politics, dirty jokes, cussing, etc., are what guys in a lounge would be talking about, and we do that here too.
We do a lot of chatting about pipes and smoking (I often post pipe sales and specials and such and comment on technique), but don't get offended by anything we say...we're all old, we're all experienced, and we all take it with a grain of salt...it's just something to bullshit about.
@vtgrad2003 well said. And it would be an honor to have a real smoke with any of you old misrable bastards. Now if you will excuse me...I need to go yell at some kids messing up my lawn.
After many years of being acquainted with, and doing some business with, Country Squire, I finally made my pilgrimage to Jackson, MS. I happened to be in Vicksburg, 27 miles away, on business, so had to go by the shop and buy something. $60 later and after a relaxing bowl of Tidewater, one of their Virginia blends, I left without getting to meet JD. He was at a local rodeo selling cigars. But I got to meet Quinn, a young man who was very helpful and friendly. I took a picture or two but can't post them from this computer, so will try to load them up next week.

Damn it to hell, am I a "Old Miserable Bastard" or a ”Cheap Old Bastards”? You and @Montecristo need to get your labels coordinated.
That should cover it!
