Hi to all. I am new here and need some info. I am a long time cigarette smoker that is in transition to the world of pipe smoking. I have tried all of the Captain Black products and I like the Dark the best. My question for you all is which tobacco has the highest nicotine content? I think it would help me control my cigarette cravings. I prefer aromatics but will accept anything with a high nic content except for tobaccos with licorice undertones. Thank you in advance for your help.

Maybe try some Mac Baren HH dark fired Kentucky. This is a flake Tobacco so you'll need to be patient and dry it out a bit first. This is the strongest pipe Tobacco they make. Also the tin states not recommended for beginners.

If you haven't discovered it yet, check out tobaccoreviews.com. It's a great place to read different opinions about just about every tobacco that has ever been produced. Click on the search tab and you can search by brand, blend or tin description. Under that is the Advanced search area. Click on "Show more search fields..." and you can select avg. strength. Stronger strength generally means stronger nicotine.

I've seen multiple comments about high nicotine in the Five Brothers pouch tobacco, though nobody seems to quote any stats. I've smoked a couple of pouches of it a year or so ago, and occasionally find myself contemplating adding some more to each following tobacco order, but have yet to 'get around to it.'

My experience is that high nicotine pipe tobacco, thy name is BURLEY. Look for a blend with a high percentage of burley. The aforementioned Five Brothers is an example.

I can attest to Samuel Gawith’s “Black XX Twist” as STRONG. Samuel Gawith’s “Brown No.4 Twist” is suppose to be it’s stronger sibling. I have not tried the “Brown No.4” yet....I have some, I have not grown a “set” big enough to try it yet. I also have some STG “Five Brothers”. I smoked some a week or two ago, and the nic hit was not bad....I did smoke it in a smallish pipe however. I am sure it is less strong than “Black XX”. I have heard tales of Hermit Tobacco Co. “Captain Earle’s Ten Russians” as having a good dose of vitamin-N. I have not tried it either. Samuel Gawith’s “1792 Flake” is up there too. When I first started smoking back in 2012 *cough* newb *cough*, Peterson’s “Irish Oak” kicked my arse, I have not braved it again, but I am positive it has much less vitamin-N than “Black XX”. The “Black XX” I found I can (usually) smoke a “full” bowl I’m my WDC Baby Wellington’s.....these are tiny pipes that have a bowl about the size of a Japanese Kiseru, I can’t take much more. I have a review of “Black XX” on tobacco reviews.com under Ambush1964. There are several entertaining reviews of “Black XX” near the top of the list, I highly recommend the read🙂

If you like English blends, you can try Super Balkan by C&D. It is a very strong blend with Burley instead Virginia.

I'm a real lightweight when it comes to nicotine, and unlike @zyprexa steer clear of a blend with a high nicotine content. Guess that's because I was never a cigarette smoker.

I smoked the Five Brothers with some trepidation because of the reviews on nicotine. It was no where near as strong as the Samuel Gawith “Black XX” rope however.

I’ve had a few pipe tobacco and cigar nic hits that (sneaked?) up on me….here’s looking at you SG “Black XX” and Ave Maria “Reconquista”. I can attest to the fact that a dose of sugar...or two…will work. Provided you deal with it soon enough. I found that hard lemon drops paired well with the Ave Maria “Reconquista”.

In fact, the first bowl of the blend I whipped up last week with the two burleys, virginia, Ismir and long-cut perique required me to dive into the sugar bowl or face the consequences🤢. Subsequent bowls did not cause the problem. Good thing, because it was quite tasty, right in my wheelhouse.

Here are some nicotine overdose tips I’ve found useful:

First, when the nicotine hits you, stop smoking. This should be obvious. You may be tempted to man up and smoke through it.

However, the sick feeling you are feeling is both delayed and cumulative, and it is going to get worse before it gets better. If you keep smoking, you are making things worse.

Have a NON-DIET soft drink, anything with sugar. Eat a candy bar or cookie, even If you really don’t feel like eating. Make sure you are well hydrated. Drinking water helps.

After that, lay down and close your eyes, if you can. For most folks, the nic hit passes in no more than two hours

Two Hours😳. Wow, it has not hit me anywhere near that hard. The times the nicotine specter jumped me, it might have lasted 15 minutes or less….Two hours? That might have ended my piping.
I pretty much follow the rules you laid out though too…except the laying down part. Last time I did that I was 12 and swallowed about half a tin of Copenhagen🤮. It was my first attempt, goaded into it by a friend. I haven’t dipped since.
