Thanksgiving

America - Founded on Biblical Precepts

We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Have we not all One Father?  Hath not One God created us?  Why do we deal treacherously, a man against his brother?

We, the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquillity, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish a Constitution for the United States of America.

Justice, justice shalt thou pursue, that thou mayest live in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Proclaim liberty throughout the land, unto all the inhabitants thereof.

Of all the dispositions and habits, which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports.... Where is the security for property, for reputation, for life, if the sense of religious obligation desert the oaths  which are the instruments of investigation in courts of justice?  And let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion.

It hath been told thee, O man, what is good, and what the Lord doth require of thee: Only to do justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God.

For happily the government of the United States which gives to bigotry no sanction, to persecution no assistance, requires only that they who live under its protection should demean themselves as good citizens in giving it on all occasions their effectual support.

Righteousness maketh a nation great, but sin is a reproach to any people.

We here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain -- that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom -- and that government of the people, by the people, and for the people, shall not perish from the earth.

Behold, how good and pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity.

With firmness in the right as God gives us to see the right, let us strive on to finish the work we are in, to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and lasting peace among ourselves and with all nations.

Let justice well up as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream.

In the future days which we seek to make secure, we look forward to a world founded upon four essential human freedoms: freedom of speech and expression -- everywhere in the world; freedom of every person to worship God in his own way -- everywhere in the world;  freedom from want  which will secure to every nation a healthy peacetime life for its inhabitants -- everywhere in the world; freedom from fear, which means a world-wide reduction of armaments to such a point and in such a thorough fashion that no nation will be in a position to commit an act of physical aggression against any neighbor -- everywhere in the world.

And they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.  But they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig tree; and none shall make them afraid.

  • Seems the Rock 'n Roll oldies station I've been streaming online a bit lately, "Splinterwood Rok'n'Roll Radio" (seems to be from England), plays Alice's Restaurant at least a couple of times a day. Also, a lot of realllllllyy early Elvis and other gems (& bombs) of that musical era rarely heard anywhere else.
  • Alice's Restaurant? It is funny how you can completely erase something from your memory and then have it come back as if it were just yesterday. It has been so long since I heard this recording. Now I will have it running around my head for... a long time. Thank you @motie2

  • Adding to the Thanksgiving festivities, the family hosting a dinner had a forty pound English bulldog, who bit me on the calf of my non-sciatic leg.
    Did not penetrate jeans or flesh, but I've got an enormous bruise..... bulldog jaws are awesome.

  • Happy belated Thanksgiving. I was making merry yesterday with my family and didn't get around to checking my emails. As a matter of fact I went the entire day without looking at my computer one time. By the time I was done stuffing my fat ugly face I had to spend the remainder of the evening on the couch.

    HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all my friends here at TPL. Wishing you all a safe and healthy holiday...
    Spending the day with just the wife thanks to the threat of  COVID. Later this afternoon we will ZOOM our 2 children's families for a virtual Thanksgiving... Not great, but much better than nothing...
    Then early this evening, we will continue our tradition (since 1990), by watching that famous Thanksgiving themed movie...

    Covid has taken a lot of the fun (Family) out of this holiday, but we are Americans after all, and thus we adapt and thrive in the face of whatever adversity we face.
    I wonder if you can call a  Mulligan on thanksgiving?

    This Thanksgiving won't be any different for us than the last 16 of them.
  • Happy Thanksgiving one and all! May your turkey be juicy and delicious, and, your apple pie be sweet and warm. The wife and I are having our first Thanksgiving without guests but I awoke to the scent of apple pudding baking. She made cranberry sauce while we had a zoom chat with family on the other coast. The turkey, a 9 pound heritage bird that I hatched and raised, is in the oven with a hubbard squash. I hope you all have blessings to count too!
