I've got enough pipe tobacco to last me the remainder of my life - but I couldn't pass up on a deal like that and ordered a Sampler as well. I like all the blends but the cherry. But it mixes well with Sutliff Vanilla Custard and Chocolate Mousse.

@Bloodhound61 Cough syrup is a pretty good description of it if you smoke it straight out of the pouch without blending it with something else. When I mix it it's usually in quantities like 2 parts Vanilla Custard, 2 parts Chocolate Mousse, and 1 part Captain Black Cherry.

@Bloodhound61 Wondering if you ever got around to mixing the Captain Black Cherry with another blend of your choosing? Interested to hear the results. Cherry and Sutliff Crème Brulee are a nice mix as well. You can also substitute Crème Brulee with Molto Dolce if you have that around the house instead.

I can't stand the flavor of captain black cherry on it's own. I blend it with a chocolate mousse tobacco or smokey latakia English blend.
Anyone blend cherry with one of the other captain black pouches?

My CB Cherry has not been opened yet, still trying to figure out a mixture. I have mixed CB Dark with CB Gold. For me the Gold blend is a little light on the aromatic side, so it's a good blend to experiment with.

@ghostsofpompeii, sorry for the delay in responding. I tried the CB Cherry on its own first, as I'd never tried a cherry anything before. I have to say it tasted much as I imagined it would and, speaking just for my taste buds, it wasn't my cup of tea whatsoever. I took your suggestions and tried it mixed about 3 Creme Brûlée to 1 CBC, and then the same 3:1 with Vanilla Custard, as those were what I had on hand. Much better results when it was mixed. I preferred the VC mixture as it seemed to be a mellower, more bakery, kind of sweet. Not bad at all, and I believe that's how I'll end up consuming the remainder of the cherry.

As for the rest of the sampler, I liked the CB Dark quite a bit as I'm very fond of black cavendish, even lightly or not noticeably cased. And I agree with @buflosab, I find the Gold better mixed than on its own. On its own, it just doesn't seem to offer much of anything one way or the other.

Since receiving the Sampler I've been smoking quite a bit of Captain Black blends and I must say that as aromatics go ... they are quite comparable to many of the more expensive tin tobaccos I've been smoking. So I'm having a hard time understanding why so many people seem to have an aversion to the Captain Black blends. I can understand it if you primarily smoke non-aromatic Virginia Perique blends or English blends. But those smoking the many Sutliff or Lane aromatics, or even the more highly touted Russ and Scotty blends from Pipes&Cigars - I have to say Captain Black doesn't deserve the bad rap it gets. And should many of my favorite tinned tobaccos suddenly become unavailable due to the FDA Deeming Regulations and all I can find are the various Captain Black blends then I'll still get along quite well, and continue enjoying my evening pipe without a hitch.

As mentioned elsewhere, I finally tried BCA and RLP. was not impressed by either. But mixed 50/50 they have found a place in my very limited number of smoking blends. I mention this because many folks think they are the same as CB dark and white, much the same way Sutliff MD and Creme Brulee are similar enough to be the same.

The only blend in the Captian Black blends that I have a problem with is the Cherry blend. Bought it once didn't like. Got the sampler and used it as a mixer.
