There are 50 States in the union. Why is it California law seems to be the one that takes precedence over the 49 other States and we're expected to follow the guideline and accept their opinions as gospel to be posted on nearly ever product made. I bought an exercise bike with a warning label that certain material the cycle is constructed of has been known to cause cancer by the Sate of California. I hate to think of what this country would look like if California made all the decisions for us.
That warning is posted on nearly everything, including buildings in California. It's ridiculous. They seem to think by posting it, the product manufacturers, etc will somehow be immune to liability should someone claim their product is cancer causing. Where did you see it? Given my years of traveling there, I have a love/hate relationship with Cali as I do with my own (Connecticut) which is also a nanny state.
Seems that I read sometime back that the ubiquitous use of the nutty California labelling was simply a business choice....meaning it didn't make sense for any firm to make labels and distribute their product to the 49 other more normal states and then a separate label and distribution system only for products sold in California.....
That said, "this product", in the case of the warning posted on TPL, is an online forum which apparently contains nicotine and tobacco smoke. Someone please tell me how to extract and enjoy it.
Many years ago, maybe in the 40’s or 50’s Pennsylvania decided all food items had to have an expiration date. The law was only for items sold in PA. However manufacturers decided it was easier to put the labels on all food...Maybe that’s where CA got the idea they could rule the world. I mean,,, do Twinkies ever expire?. I can understand a date on water, because it is the bottle that goes bad, not the water.\
While I do agree with everyone here about this stupid label, the California bashing is getting old. Everyone lives in a state where in its own world, it has its own set of stupid authority that infringes or tries to infringe upon the rights of others.
CA is my home. I was born and raised here, so let’s please keep this focused in a more positive manner if we could. I like the idea of ignoring and moving on. Lol.
@mfresa please don’t let me discourage you from voicing your opinions. I am in a cool spot of California sort of, so it’s not all bad. That’s all I want people to know.
Hi all. As to why STG places the California health warning on all our products... Once products ship from our factory to wholesale, we do not control where they ultimately end up at retail, so we have to ensure we are compliant in case the products end up in California. We have always had the Prop 65 warning on our products. The one posted at the top of this thread is the new version, which goes into effect on for products produced after August 30.
California's Proposition 65 "may" have been drafted with a good intent, but it's devolved into a tool for attorneys to legally extort statutory penalty settlements out of businesses when they fail to add the warning on products offered for sale in California. Look hard enough and you can find trace quantities of the statutorily enumerated chemicals in most products- garden hoses, check-book covers, dry-cleaned clothing, breakfast cereal, vegetable chips, and coffee, to name just a few. However, the Prop 65 warning area on a tobacco tin makes a great place to write the tin/purchase date with a marker.

@mfresa By the looks of the above statement, if it wasn't for California, we'd all be home free...
My suggestion, Have the tobacco companies quit selling in California, and they would save a lot of money on labels and printing...

I pretty much ignore it and move on.
