Old Dominion Corncob Pipes

Does anyone have any experience with Old Dominion cobs? When I first saw their cobs, I was turned off to them, as they didn't look like the Missouri Meerschaum cobs I'm used to. I even passed by their booth at the Chicago Pipe Show and didn't give them much of a thought. I think it's the reed stems, which looked a bit uncomfortable to me. However, over the past few weeks, I've developed a deeper appreciation for the corncob pipe, and now I find the Old Dominion cobs much more intriguing. Just wondering if anyone has one in their rack, and what they think about them?

@thebadgerpiper, as a fellow cob-lover, I’d be interested to hear the feedback also. I have to agree with you, though, the design doesn’t particularly appeal to me. I’m old school, but maybe not that old school.

@Bloodhound61 I hear you about the concern with the design. I've read some reviews though of people who were skeptical of the cobs, but ended up loving them. I'm interested in trying out an old school, rugged cob, even if it doesn't look as nice as a Missouri Meerschaum. If I pick one up, I definitely plan on staining it before smoking it, as I'm not a fan of the natural color.

I just browsed the site and I agree the bamboo stem looks aweful, it's just not the look I am used to. However, the purpose for this design is to recreate old traditional pipes of that era. If your into history it's probably pretty cool.

If they're into bamboo stems, and since they already do clay pipes, I wonder if they'll take to reproducing the clay-pipe stummel with a bamboo stem types of pipes from Wayyyyyy Back When.

If you read their story, you find that they now source all their cobs from Missouri because the corn cobs the started using didn’t last long. They haven’t been in business that long either. However their clay pipes look more interesting.

I smoked one of their corn cobs yesterday and enjoyed it. Of course I smoked C&D's Corncob Pipe and a Button Nose.
